Figgins Keeps Popping Up In Trade Rumors

Sep 20, 2014 5:07 PM

White Sox general manager Ken Williams is rumored to be interested in Angels infielder Chone Figgins but he understands acquiring him won't be easy, according to The Chicago Sun-Times. A source close to the White Sox said that Williams began sending out "feelers" about two weeks ago regarding his interest in Figgins. "That's an interesting name, and a name that I, yeah ... they're a pretty good team and they need ... I'm talking about the guys that will ultimately be available, and I don't know if they will be any better than what we already got," Williams said Tuesday. "Again, the key phrase being that they will ultimately be available. Not that I can't sit here and play the fantasy game. Hell, I can play that game and come up with a bunch of people. Reality, that's the game I have to deal in."

There is some belief that the Rockies could deal outfielder Matt Holliday similar to the way the Rangers traded Mark Teixeira last summer, according to The Rocky Mountain News. Jocketty Hasn't Talked Jr. Trade

Sep 18, 2014 4:29 AM

Reds general manager Walt Jocketty has yet to discuss trading outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. with any other team, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. "I've had no trade discussions," Jocketty said on Wednesday. The GM has talked with Griffey about the situation though, as the player has the right to veto any trade the Reds attempt to make. "I've talked with him," Jocketty said. "Not knowing Junior that well, I wanted to make sure we had a line of communication open. He assured me that he'd like to play here and hopefully win a championship." Dealing Griffey would open up a spot for Jay Bruce, one of the top prospects in all of baseball.

The Mariners have reportedly sent an executive to check out Reds' outfielder Ken Griffey Jr., according to The Dayton Daily News. President Chuck Armstrong wants Griffey back in Seattle to help boost the team's attendance, and Cincinnati is rumored to be interested in ridding themselves of his salary. Duane Shaffer, a special assistant to the organization, was at Shea Stadium this weekend to check out the former Seattle legend. When Griffey was asked about Shaffer's visit, he said, "Don't know the man. Never heard of him. I just live and play for the present. I've never been a what-if guy."

Would Griffey Welcome Deal Back To Seattle?

Jul 24, 2014 7:30 PM

With rumors swirling that the Reds plan to deal outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. after he hits the 600th home run of his career, there seems to be a possibility that he could return to Seattle where his career began, according to The Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Griffey hasn't indicated a desire to leave Cincinnati, but hasn't brushed off the idea of returning to the Mariners either. "I said the exact same thing last year," Griffey told a Cincinnati media horde. "So why is it such a big story now? If I would have changed anything from last year, it would be a story. But I said the same thing. What's the big deal?" "Kenny is one of my all-time favorites," Seattle manager John McLaren said. "I think he was the player for the '90s. I can't comment on somebody else's player, but I think the world of him. I'm anxious for him to get his 600th homer, and I think if he had been healthy (since leaving Seattle) he'd be at 700 now."
